Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sort text alphabetically online?

Simply paste your text into our text sorter, select "A → Z" for ascending order or "Z → A" for descending order, and the lines will be sorted alphabetically instantly. You can also enable case-sensitive sorting if you want uppercase and lowercase letters treated differently. The sorted result appears immediately in the output panel.

Can I remove duplicate lines while sorting?

Yes! Enable the "Remove duplicates" option before sorting. The tool will keep only the first occurrence of each unique line and remove all duplicates. This is perfect for cleaning up lists, removing redundant entries, and organizing data. You can combine this with any sorting method.

How does numeric sorting work?

Numeric sorting extracts the first number found in each line and sorts based on that number. This is perfect for numbered lists like "1. First item", "2. Second item", "10. Tenth item". Unlike alphabetical sorting (which would put "10" before "2"), numeric sorting correctly orders "2" before "10". Choose "Numeric (0-9)" for ascending or "Numeric (9-0)" for descending order.

What's the difference between case-sensitive and case-insensitive sorting?

Case-insensitive sorting (default) treats "Apple" and "apple" as the same word, placing them together.Case-sensitive sorting treats them differently, typically placing all uppercase words before lowercase (so "Apple" comes before "apple"). Use case-sensitive when exact case matters, like in code or when organizing names with specific capitalization. For more text tools, check out our Text Case Converter.

Can I sort by line length?

Absolutely! Use "Shortest First" to sort from shortest to longest lines, or "Longest First" for the opposite. This is useful for organizing content by length, finding the longest/shortest entries, or creating graduated lists. The length includes all characters, spaces, and punctuation in each line.

Is my text data secure?

Yes, completely secure! All text sorting happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your text never leaves your device or gets sent to any server. We don't collect, store, or transmit any of your data. You can use the tool offline once the page loads. Your privacy is fully protected.

Is this text sorter free?

Yes, 100% free with unlimited sorting! No registration, downloads, or fees. Sort as many lines as you need with all features available. Perfect for organizing lists, cleaning data, and managing text. We also offer other free tools like Word Frequency Counter, Character Counter, and JSON Formatter.
